[attr="class","sera-content"]Ariana constantly heard from her uncle and her cousin that she needed to get a real life in town. She had a few friends, and she was on the cheerleading team, and she went out with people on the weekends, but they still didn't believe she had a life, or they thought she had the wrong life, but Ariana didn't want anything more than she had. She made friends easily, which meant they didn't need to worry in her mind, but she knew it was the going out that worried them. Her mother was an alcoholic, so she must have some problems of her own. This was what led Ariana to feel the need to prove them wrong on a Saturday morning when she would normally like to be sleeping. If they thought she had a problem with going out too much and sleeping too late on the weekends, she could show she was fine by getting up and going out to do the things a normal person would do, or at least what normal people in Ellisville would do, which wasn't much. Brunch was okay if she was with a group, but alone it just felt sad. She had already gotten a coffee for the morning, and her hair and nails did not need to be done at the salon.
Ariana found herself with her family's dog Nick, named by her uncle or cousin for the football coach Nick Saban, on a leash as she wandered into town. She took the weimaraner with her on this morning because it meant she was not walking alone, but instead she had taken the dog out for the day. The other benefit of taking the dog was that it was an excuse to be even more casual than she normally preferred to be when in public. Her original plan had just been to go get the coffee, but looking at the time, she knew she should stay out for a little while longer before returning home to lie around with her cat and then proceed to get ready to go out for the night. Now she needed to occupy her time for just a little while longer.
As she walked, Ariana's eye was caught by the Farmer's Market, making her mind wander to the fresh fruit she could find to snack on, and she could easily run into someone she knew there, or the dog was always a good way to start a conversation. Crowds were also a good thing in her mind. In a crowd, she could watch people, or have short meaningless conversations to go home and tell her uncle about what a wonderful morning she had, and all of the good food she found in the Farmer's Market that morning.
Ariana knew her thoughts made her sound like a loner, or a social outcast of some sort, but this was not the case. She could talk to a wall if she wanted to, but since moving she had made an effort to keep her life to herself, so in a small town where everyone knew everything, this was difficult. She wanted to find a couple of friends she felt like she could actually trust, but everyone there grew up with each other, so it wasn't easy. The protective older cousin who pried into her life at times did not help either, or if he wasn't prying, she had to deal with girls who would want to be her friend because of how attractive they found him, thinking it would get them closer. It made Ariana appreciate growing up an only child where she didn't have to deal with such small things on a daily basis.
Making her way into the crowd of people, Ariana felt comfortable. She was from an actual city after all, which meant she felt the most at ease when there were more people around. It was odd that she liked crowds, but hated confined spaces. Of course confined spaces meant she was more likely to find herself alone with someone, while crowds meant there was always another person to turn to, or a way to blend into a group in order to escape an awkward situation. In the crowded Farmer's Market she saw various people carrying bags of food they purchased, dogs on leashes, and stands filled with a colorful array of fruits and vegetables as well as fresh baked breads and pastries. Of course Ariana would not be partaking in much food, other than possibly some fresh strawberries, because they would remind her of the Farmer's Market back home where she would once in a while go with her step-dad and her mom to get food and doughnuts from the doughnut truck and stands there.
Ariana took her time walking through, keeping Nick on a short leash to keep him from bothering anyone, taking her time considering where she actually wanted to stop or even if she would stop instead of just passing straight through the market just to kill some time.
